Read-only state
What it means when a team workspace becomes read-only and how to restore write access.
A team workspace can enter read-only mode. When it does, every member (including the owner) sees a banner explaining the state, and write actions are disabled across the app.
How to recognize it
You may notice one or more of these symptoms:
- Team actions are disabled.
- A banner says the workspace is read-only.
- Chat can be blocked in the team, depending on the reason for the restriction.
- New bots, uploads, training, invitations, or API token actions are unavailable.
When does it happen?
A team becomes read-only when one of these is true:
- The team subscription has a pending cancellation (the read-only state lasts until the cancellation date).
- The team's quota tracking is disabled by workspace policy.
Pegasus shows the read-only banner at the top of the workspace and on the Team Management page.
If your workspace access changed entirely, Pegasus usually switches you back to Personal instead of leaving you in a read-only team. That is a different recovery path from the state described here.
What you can do
- Browse bots, conversations, usage, team members, invitations, subscription details.
- Chat with bots that are already READY (chatting consumes credits — if the team's quota is enabled this still counts; if disabled, chat is also disabled).
- Switch to your Personal workspace at any time to continue working there.
What you can't do
- Create new bots, edit existing ones, upload new documents, or change system prompts.
- Train any bot. The Train button is disabled.
- Modify the embed widget config.
- Invite new members or change seats.
- Create or revoke personal access tokens scoped to this team.
What to do next
- If you are a member, contact the team owner.
- If you are the owner, check the team subscription and billing state first.
- If the banner appeared after a recent change, refresh once after the owner restores access.
Reverting read-only
If the team is pending cancellation, the team owner can Revert cancellation from the Team Management → Subscription tab before the cancel date. The read-only state lifts immediately.
